How does one English?
Meet the Teacher
Hello, my name is Ms. Wongso! Boy, do I have a lot to tell you! I can't wait to cultivate relationships and to get to know you. I will be graduating from Cal State Fullerton in 2019 with my BA in English at twenty years old. Graduating at such a young age will be a story for a different time. After college, I have decided to pursue my credential and masters in English, while substituting and working in my brother's restaurant. Studying literature has truly grown my love for English and how English truly impacts the course of where society is. I've learned new skills in how to scaffold certain topics and I have developed strategies to ultimately improve this course of literature. I honestly have not always loved learning, but learning how this applies to the real world is what truly intrigued me and I hope this intrigues you as well. I have developed lesson plans to keep you on your toes and to be intertwined with the world and yourself. We are all in this together!
P.S. I love high school musical. The boy in my picture is one of the translators I had when I went to Iraq!

About this Course
The main focus on this lesson will have determine the elements of a story through analysis of culture. In this 9th grade honors English class, we will be studying many literary works, not your typical novels, but also articles that will be analyzed through the use of rhetoric. Some literary works we will be focusing on are Gene Luen Yang's American Born Chinese, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and Henry James' "The Real Thing." Using these works will be a great way for the students to be exposed to different types of literary works because they are different variations of literature. Students will be able to differentiate themes and also make nuances between texts. In the future, students will be asked to create a group video project, whether it be a song or a skit, to show the elements of a story. This integrates technology, creativity, and literature all in one! This enforces students to read and keep each other accountable, this will build their ability to critically analyze and to have fun!
